I saw…
a young coyote catch a mouse this morning, right in front of my house. The ‘yote was so happy, it was tossing the poor, dead thing around like it was a toy, shaking its head, jumping up and down and and chasing the mouse’s little, bouncing cadaver like it was a ball. When it finally tired of this sport, it dug a hole in the dirt in front of my place and buried the little ex-rodent there, in storage for a hungry night. And this entire event took place 5 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, and not out in the wilderness someplace.

Unfortunately, gruesome acts are not confined to time and place. Nature is wild and fearsome everywhere.
