Should you happen to b anywhere in North America (and other places, but I’m not sure where) tonight there will be a total lunar eclipse. It’s already begun, so if you peek your head out of your apartment and glance skyward, you’ll see where the cosmic mouse has just begun to nibble the lunar cheese. The eclipse should reach its peak in around 90 minutes. Tonight’s eclipse is supposed to be a rare sort, in which instead of being a flat black from the earth’s shadow, the moon will be glowing a deep red brown. This means, of course, that I have to stay awake for the next hour-and-a-half in order to witness the anger of Jove and then the return of Luna, illustrating some metaphor but I’m too drunk to figure out which one.
